嘉宾简介:Christoph Harbsmeier, professor emeritus of Chinese in Oslo, is now an adjunct professor of Chinese Literature in University of Copenhagen. He is also an adjunct professor of Chinese in Peking University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, and Xinjiang University. He has been a university lecturer in Princeton, a visiting professor in Dept of Philosophy in Berkeley, University of Michigan, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and most recently for a year in University of Chicago. His main interest is in philosophy of language, grammar and conceptual history,a comparative perspective. His books include vol. 7.1 of Joseph Needham, Science and Civilisation in China,Language and Logic (1998), Aspects of Classical Chinese Syntax (1981), and Wilhelm von Humoldt’s Brief an Abel Rémusat und die philosophische Grammatik des Altchinesischen (1979).His most recent book, co-authored with Françoise Bottéro, is Chinese Lexicography on Matters of the Heart,an exploratory commentary on Heart Radical in Shuo wen jie zi (Paris 2016).
讲座内容:This lecture will compare languages like classical Greek, classical Latin and classical Chinese as well as a number of modern languages like German, Russian,French and Pirahan. The main question will be: what are the relative strenghts and weaknesses of such languages? Are some languages better than others? What does this mean for the analytic philosophy of language?
